Noosa2Fraser 4WD Hire Vehicles are a great way to explore North Stradbroke Island, which is located just off the coast of Brisbane in Moreton Bay. It is a one hour drive from the Gold Coast or Brisbane to the ferries at Toondah Harbour, Cleveland. There are three ferry companies – Stradbroke Ferries, Big Red Cat and the Stradbroke Flyer. Stradbroke Ferries operates vehicle barges and a water taxi passenger ferry. Big Red Cat operates vehicle barges and you can also travel as a walk on passenger. The Stradbroke Flyer has passenger ferries.

The vehicle ferries take 50 minutes from Cleveland to Dunwich on North Stradbroke Island. The passenger ferries take 25 minutes.

Stradbroke Island (or “Straddie” as the locals know it) has plenty to see and do for the family. Fishing, surfing, boating, 4WDing and exploring the islands beauty are just a few of the things on offer. Blue Lake (Karboora) is a window into the water table that underlies Straddie’s sand masses. Brown Lake (Bummeira) perches above the water table, surrounded by tea-trees to rest under and imbued with the healing, soothing essence of their oils.

If you are interested in Whale Watching, thousands of Humpback Whales migrate north past Straddie from May through to July to breed in the warmer waters. Marine life abounds in the waters including dolphins, turtles, Eagle and Manta rays. You can stand on the headlands at Point Lookout and watch whales breaching, dolphins riding the waves and see turtles through the azure oceanic waters.

4WD beach driving is permitted only on Main and Flinders Beaches subject to tides. Permits are required and can be purchased prior to your visit.
